A few of my very favorite photos from our recent trip to Ha’atafu, Tonga.

Green Anole
Snapping some shots of this green anole lizard almost made me late for my meeting today. 99.9% of the time I only see brown anoles around here, but in the last week or so I’ve seen three green ones. I spent some time watching him (her?) change colors from flat brown to a tan gray to bright green. At their most colorful they have light blue all around their eyes. He/she still has some bits left to molt. I would have liked to see him display his throat fan (dewlap), I’ve heard that they can be bright pink instead of the usual bright orange of the brown anoles. The green anole is the only anole native to the United States, but it is not native to Hawaii. It’s often referred to as a chameleon because of its color-changing abilities, but it isn’t technically a chameleon: that’s a completely different animal.

34th Annual Buffalo Big Board Surf Contest – Makaha 2010
This past weekend wrapped up the 34th annual Buffalo Big Board Surfing Classic contest held at Makaha.
A selection of photos from the first weekend (bullyboarding, alaia surfing, paipo boarding, tandem surfing etc) is on Chad’s site at http://indeepphoto.com/?p=916

And last but not least…

Pipeline – January 31, 2010

Some recent experimental shots from the Volcom Pipeline Pro on the day of the semi-finals. Experimental on a couple of different levels: although the waves were amazing, it wasn’t a particularly spectacular day for light and so I decided to spend more time post-processing.
Pipeline: January 31, 2010

17-year-old John John Florence made it to the semi- finals in the Volcom Pipeline Pro. In 2005, he was the youngest competitor ever in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
Waimea Valley Sunrise
A recent photo snapped as I was on my way to check out the shorebreak at Waimea.

Waimea Shorebreak
A 2 minute video I made before the Eddie Aikau contest began on December 8. As much as I was watching the peak, it was difficult to not be hypnotized by the shorebreak…
Moonrise

Happy December! It was an especially beautiful moonrise over the Mokulua Islands tonight.

My Zenfolio Premium account paid for itself within 1 day of being online! No joke. Their customer service has been prompt, the user interface is friendly, I haven’t had any clients contacting me with technical difficulties, and uploading is an easy process. I would highly recommend Zenfolio for anyone doing event or session photography: it’s so great to be able to upload high-quality password-protected galleries for clients, offer digital downloads, and approve orders before they are fulfilled.
It’s a win-win!
Aloha,

Night Photography: 2009 Kailua Bay Fireworks

2009 Kailua Fireworks
Chad and I hiked up the Lanikai ridge to put together a panoramic of the Kailua fireworks for July 4th. It was a team effort to create this stitched together photo.

Bad Timing: June 12, 2009
Featured Photos: very bad timing and very lucky boat at Ala Moana. The boat hugged way too far to the right of the channel and got caught by a huge closeout set that they obviously weren’t expecting. Notice all the stuff flying off the deck, their hatches breaking off, and the people bracing. Guy in the little zodiac tried to push their bow around, and soon a dive boat showed up to tow them right back into the harbor where they belong.
