The Quicksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau Contest at Waimea Bay was a no-go today, but there was plenty of beautiful shorebreak to shoot and there are still six weeks left in the holding period. Contest or no contest, there were plenty of big waves to admire.
The All-Stars versus Dallas Derby Devils. Final score 87-49 for Dallas, it was a great match and the fans (myself included) LOVED it! Want to know more about local Roller Derby? Visit their website: http://www.pacificrollerderby.com/
Snapping some shots of this green anole lizard almost made me late for my meeting today. 99.9% of the time I only see brown anoles around here, but in the last week or so I’ve seen three green ones. I spent some time watching him (her?) change colors from flat brown to a tan gray to bright green. At their most colorful they have light blue all around their eyes. He/she still has some bits left to molt. I would have liked to see him display his throat fan (dewlap), I’ve heard that they can be bright pink instead of the usual bright orange of the brown anoles. The green anole is the only anole native to the United States, but it is not native to Hawaii. It’s often referred to as a chameleon because of its color-changing abilities, but it isn’t technically a chameleon: that’s a completely different animal.

Some recent experimental shots from the Volcom Pipeline Pro on the day of the semi-finals. Experimental on a couple of different levels: although the waves were amazing, it wasn’t a particularly spectacular day for light and so I decided to spend more time post-processing.

A 2 minute video I made before the Eddie Aikau contest began on December 8. As much as I was watching the peak, it was difficult to not be hypnotized by the shorebreak…
